On the 18th of May 2017, Scott and I attended the black tie event for the ICAEW Essex Accountancy Awards at Stock Brook Country Club, in Billericay Essex.
We had been fortunate to be shortlisted along with three other significantly larger firms in Essex, for Accountancy Firm of the Year 2017.
It was a really good event. Having been a member of ICAEW now for almost four years, I had not had the opportunity to date to meet with the Essex branch, so it was really good to meet some new people. I also got to meet the current president of ICAEW, Hilary Lindsay which was fantastic as the ICAEW is focusing on the theme of flexible working so it was good to have a talk to her about how we as a firm are also supporting flexible working.
We did not manage to win Accountancy Firm of the Year with the title going to a very deserving firm, Nordens who are based in Romford. It was great to see the 20 staff members they had there at on the night, all jump up on the stage to collect the award to.
However, we were incredibly honoured to have received a Highly Commended award in the category which I received due to my enthusiasm and drive for accountancy. The judges were impressed with our entry and decided should be recognised also for our hard work to.
We are incredibly grateful for this gesture. Having recognition from the Institute that we are members of, means a great deal to us and we really enjoyed the opportunity to be part of the awards.
